Pornography, the addiction nobody talks about. I discovered porn when I was five years old. I didn’t know what is was. But I knew it felt great. And that I wanted to experience it again.
From that moment, I spent my Saturday nights in front of the television, the volume on mute, and my eyes fixated on the pixels in front of me. That changed, when my mother bought me a phone.
I didn’t wait for Saturdays anymore. Nor did I mute the volume. All I needed was privacy, earphones and an erection.
Thus, began my education on addiction.
At the time, I didn’t know that the body was a learning machine. That the things I did back then, would become the habits of today. I thought I was having fun, harmless fun. Unaware of the repercussions of my actions.
A decade later, and I’m still watching porn.
It wasn’t until I tried to quit, that I realised it was an addiction. And when I did quit, I noticed all my other addictions.
So, I embarked on a journey. A journey to overcome my addiction.
The journey’s been fun, difficult and transformative. When I quit porn, I developed a new addiction. Sex. That’s when I noticed, that everyone is an addict.
We’re all addicted to things that take the pain away.
Sex, removes the pain of a dull existence. And replaces it with pleasure. Every weekend, people run to their vices to escape. The most popular vice people run to, is sex.
This book is a story about my journey. My journey to become a better man, a better person and a better human being. It’s a story about my failures and my successes. It’s a story about being human and the challenges that come with it.
Most importantly, It’s a story about pain. And the joy that comes, when you overcome it.
